Green roofs, also known as βlivingβ or βvegetatedβ roofs, is a roof of a building that is partially or completely covered with plants, which have been planted over a waterproofing membrane. Often containing additional layers such as root barrier, drainage and irrigation systems and insulation. These roofs are available in two types:
- Extensive - usually consist of Sedum or similar plants, are light weight, requiring minimal maintenance and tend not to require any additional water irrigation
- Intensive - usually consisting of plants, shrubs, planters, trees and turf/grass, similar to a traditional garden
